ABOUT THE SCHOOL

SETTING

The Highland Musical Arts Summer School of Piping and Drumming will be held at Lewis & Clark College located in Portland, Oregon.  The HMA school will not offer overnight accommodations in 2008.

FORMAT

Full-day instruction is provided at all but beginner skill levels Monday through Thursday.  An abbreviated session will be provided to beginners each of the four days.

Piping class schedules will provide individualized attention and regularly-scheduled sessions with the chief instructor.  Drumming instruction will offer daily focus on technique, ear training, phrasing and composition skills.  All instruction will be based on curriculum plans developed by the chief instructors.

Full-day students 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Beginner students 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Lunch is included for all students.

LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

The school is committed to developing musicality in piping and drumming students of all ages and experience levels.  Students will learn techniques for analyzing what they play and what they hear.  They will acquire skills and strategies for producing music that will benefit them as solo or band players, in both competitive and non-competitive environments.
